Well, hello! I didn’t do many blog posts this year, so I guess I need to get one in before 2017 comes to a close. To put it simply…2017 has been a good one. As I compiled the pictures for this post, I was reminded of all of the incredible seniors and their families that I was so fortunate to meet this year. Each one holds a special place in my heart and I know I always say this, but I really do have the best clients.
First of all…this year started with a big step. After years of sharing studio spaces with other photographers, I finally took the leap and leased my very own space. It took quite a bit of work to transform it from a computer repair shop into a studio and I’m still not fully done with it, but it’s getting there! This after picture was taken in April, so it looks a little more completed now but I am looking forward to spending some time making it feel more like home this spring.
At the end of May, I got to do my first ever senior destination shoot in Oregon and it was everything I dreamed it would be and more. When Moe’s mom first brought up the idea back in January at our consult, I’m sure I looked calm on the outside, but inside I was screaming like a kid at Christmas. I had always wanted to do a destination shoot and to be able to do one in Oregon was a dream come true. We crammed two amazing shoots into one day…the first one being on the Michael Johnson track on the Nike campus and then to Horsetail Falls for some dreamy waterfall pictures. I loved this area so much and can’t wait to go back someday!
Speaking of destinations…I also did a shoot with Chandler in Colorado this summer. I absolutely love Colorado and it had always been a dream of mine to do a shoot there, so for the class of 2018, I had an incentive that the girl with the most referrals by a certain date would get a free trip to Colorado with a photoshoot. Chandler rocked it with the referrals and won the incentive so her, her mom, and I spent three days in Colorado Springs and it was incredible. Despite almost getting rained out a few times, we did some amazing shoots there …one of which included a brisk early morning hike to do a sunrise shoot. Totally worth it.
In addition to my destination shoots, I had the opportunity to do 54 senior sessions for the class of 2018 this year. I could not do this job without all of you and I want to thank you all so much for choosing me to be your senior photographer! It means more than you’ll ever know.
And last but not least, I found out in November that five of my images were chosen for this year’s Senior Style Guide Hot 100 contest, giving me Icon Status. This is the contest for senior photographers, so to be chosen from over 8,000 images submitted is still unreal to me. I was actually at my studio when I found out and started jumping around and screaming in excitement….so I’m sure the ladies next door at Jazzercise now think I’m a little crazy. 😉
It’s going to be hard to top 2017, but I am looking forward to an even bigger and better 2018!
